Schools and COVID-19

There’s no hard evidence yet that children can spread coronavirus. There’s also no hard evidence yet that children will NOT spread the virus. That’s science for you. The process can be messy, and we won’t know completely how the virus works for years.

Do you think we should take a gamble with 50 million kids in school? There WILL be a vaccine next year. We just have to figure out how to get through one school year until then.

Many children need meals that schools provide. Many parents can’t stay home with their kids and miss work. But, some CAN stay home, so our society should take advantage of that.

We need to figure this sh*t out. We shouldn’t force children to enter school buildings. We also shouldn’t disadvantage children who want to remain in their homes.

I’m no expert, but maybe 100% online learning can work — with remote learning centers for those kids who can’t be at home. I assume school buildings can serve as those learning centers. And some teachers can be paid to help kids with the online learning at the learning centers. But the point would be that *everything* is online: lessons, tests, homework, etc.
